BELGRADE – Mama Shelter hotel review, best place to stay in Belgrade, Serbia

As you might know I booked a trip to Belgrade. After booking I checked out hotels who were located close by the highlights I wanted to visit ( the Zepter Museum, Kalemegdan Park, the Belgrade Fortress). My eye fell on Mama Shelter Belgrade a bar and rooftop restaurant hotel located on top of a indoor mall. Mama Shelter is located very, very close by the highlights I wanted to visit and it looked like a trendy hotel. The hotel describes itself on their website as vibrant and colorful, the rooms are designed by Jalil Amor in sizes ranging from M to XXL Which are each soundproofed, they offer endless movies, free Wi-Fi and a free gym. Sounds like a Mecca for hotel-lovers right ? I booked a Mama Large Room which included a King Size bed, free movies and a minibar and organic solid amenities.

I will tell you my honest experience in this post. Was it worth it ?

Mama Shelter Belgrade hotel review

I checked in on 25th of August in the evening. I arrived in the evening because my flight landed around 7 in the evening. I arrived with a taxi, most taxi drivers knew Mama Shelter, it was a fine 20 minutes drive by taxi in the evening. The taxi driver dropped me of in front of the Rajiceva Shopping Center where the hotel is located inside. You just take the elevator and go to the fourth floor. That was easy! While stepping out of the elevator I could already feel some good vibes, vibrating music and the smell of good food of the rooftop. The lobby is spacious with plenty of cute cushions, colorful seats and lounge sofas. Checking in went smoothly and the staff showed me the way to the hotel room, I unpacked and got ready to try out the restaurant!

Lets take a closer look at the bar and restaurant later.

here you can see the highlights in the area

The rooms

The Mama Shelter hotel has various rooms from standard rooms to a beautiful XXL suites . I opted for a Large room. The rooms are large enough and lovely decorated. Enough comfortable seating and the bed was simply amazing. Not to soft, not to hard so it should work for everyone. Also was there a minibar available with different kind of drinks, cola, bitter lemon water and beer. The prices are written on top of the minibar.

The bathroom was large, with all the amenities, including a hairdryer. one expects from a good hotel. I can’t think of anything missing in the room.

Food and Drinks at Mama Shelter Rooftop Bar and Restaurant

Mama Shelter restaurant is very known in the neighborhood and that could be seen at the terrace in the evening which was full of people. There was a DJ every evening that I went to eat at the rooftop who plays good music! You have the option to sit on the rooftop terrace or indoors if you prefer. I chose for outside and the view from the rooftop was incredibly stunning. You can look down at the walking area and check out the city from above. I chose for the fried prawns with extra fries and a Red Queen cocktail. Tasted both yummy!

They have various food ranging from pasta, pizza, burgers to falafel and sweet cakes. The servers are very kind, young and quick. Good to know is that they also offer a large range of various drinks, cocktails and offer even nonalcoholic cocktails if you do not consume alcohol. They have also gluten-free bread available. Furthermore there is a large soccer table and a Ping-Pong table available and inside you can watch soccer on the many screens. Want to play chess? No problem, they have also chessboards available indoors.

the view from the rooftop, beautiful isnt it?

The next morning Mama Shelter offered a breakfast which is a buffet. The breakfast is available at 6.30 to 10.30 and I am telling you, it was worth every single penny! The breakfast was very variated, I never saw such an variated breakfast buffet in my life. Croissants, eggs, different kinds of ham, cheese burek, spicy shakskuka ( a must-try mmm) and many more ! Also they had various drinks ranging from fresh lemonade with lemon to orange juice. If that wasn’t enough a large range of fruits, grapes, melon, peaches etc. The foods and drinks were just too good! Mama did a great job. We just couldn’t get enough of it. We stayed indoor while consuming our breakfast and just enjoyed the music. The indoor sitting area is huge and comfy so very relaxed.

Overall experience

My stay was certainly worth it. The fact that you could just walk out of your hotel room and merge yourself in a vibing group of people in the bar or restaurant enjoying wonderful food was amazing. The staff was young, friendly and the rooms were comfy. Also the free movies were nice I had a lot of options. And one of the most important things is that the location of the hotel was TOP. I am for sure coming back to Mama!
